The RTP Mobile Robotic Training Lab was invited to participate in the 2nd Annual Engineering Showcase, hosted by the McWane Science Center in Birmingham, AL on Feb 19, 2014. Students from various Alabama high schools participated in the Engineering Showcase, with about 600 students visiting the robotic mobile lab. Within our 53 ft long robotic mobile training lab, students were given the opportunity to stop and observe FANUC, MOTOMAN and other robots in action at various HANDS ON robotic and PLC stations. This experience provided teachers an excellent opportunity to teach and excite their students about their potential future from outside of their everyday classroom setting.
According to Steve Pollock, Technical Coordinator for Alabama RTP, the students were surprised to see the robots in action and were excited about future careers in robotics. Steve says the experience opened the students eyes to what real robots actually are.
The Mobile Lab is an instructional tool used throughout the state of Alabama by the RTP and its partners, to spread awareness and create interest and excitement about the robotics industry and the career opportunities of the future. For schools or institutions that are interested in the RTP Mobile Lab coming to your facility, please complete the RTP Mobile Lab Request Form and someone will contact you to schedule.
